“We had to stop cooperation with the Fethullah Gulen Chair before Ramadan. Termination of this cooperation is based on various fundamental considerations,†said UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Rector Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada MA to media in Jakarta, on Friday ( 22/07).
Dede confirms that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta wants cooperation built by the government’s relationship with the government (G to G), and not by NGOs (LSM).
While the related allegations about the termination of cooperation agreement between UIN Jakarta and Fethullah Gulen Chair are based on the pressure from the Turkish ambassador to Indonesia, Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah did not deny it.
“It is not a pressure. But the Turkish Ambassador in Jakarta give the advice to the Director General of Islamic Higher Education Ministry of Religious Affairs so that cooperation with the Fethullah Gulen chair to be reviewed,†said Rector.
For Dede Rosyada, cooperation with any party is not a problem for the sake of building a better education in Islamic universities. The problem is if such cooperation will affect the climate of education itself.
“UIN Jakarta wants to cooperate with various parties that are not related to issues outside the field of education. If the political overtones or issues outside the field of education were too dominant, the effect of such cooperation is the rise of various prejudices, “he said.
After the coup in Turkey a few days ago, Fethullah Gulen is accused as an “intellectual actors” behind a failed military coup that. But Gulen as a “Hizmet Movement†figure, denies the allegations of being the mastermind.
It is expected that the cooperation built by Fethullah Gülen Chair in the field of education and social services with a number of parties, will be adversely impacted by the Military coup. (edi ae/umar syarif audah)
