Diorama Room, UIN News Online– Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) through Center fo International Cooperation of UIN Jakarta facilitates workshops on writing proposals and pre-Ph.D research reports for beginner lecturers in the Diorama Room on Monday (11/1212018). Present as speakers, Professor James Arvanitakis from the Institute for Culture and Society, Western Sydney University, Australia.

It is known that Arvanitakis is a Sociology Professor who does a lot of transdisciplinary research starting from the issues of globalization, citizenship, youth, and security. Some of his works include Contemporary Society: a sociological analysis of everyday life (Oxford University Press, 2009), Piracy: Leakages From Modernity (Litwin Books, 2014), and The Citizen in the 21st Century(Inter-Disciplinary Press, 2013).

Chairperson of LP2M Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, Dr. Ali Munhanif, explained that the workshop was carried out as a form of enrichment of insight for young lecturers in writing research proposals and reports both in studies and other academic works. “Besides how research reports can be written into articles that are worthy of being published in international journals,” he said.

In his presentation, James encouraged lecturers to write academic work from the research process on the subject of study became their scientific interest. In addition to the ability to use the approach tools, the ability of researchers to build communication with the community the object of research is very necessary.

He added that researchers must also be able to anticipate a number of challenges that might be present while carrying out the research process. “The research process is quite heavy when you carry out doctoral research. The process is not linear, but it is full of twists, “he added.
