NTT, UIN NEWS Online – A number of senior high schools (SMA) and Madrasah Aliyah (MA) students in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), hoping to continue their studies at UIN Jakarta. Access to higher education so their pedestals equip themselves in advancing local social life in the future.

Such hope arises when UIN NEWS Online visits a number of SMA and MA in the district that was established since 2003, Tuesday-Thursday (13-22 / 03/2018). No less than six SMA / MA visited UIN Online NEWS. In these schools, UIN Online NEWS conducts socialization on lectures at UIN Jakarta.

In SMAN 1 Mbeliling, for example. School students located in the mountains of Golo Ndoal, Sanno Nggoang District, West Manggarai, expressed their hope to continue their study to UIN Jakarta.

Ratni, a Class XI Student of Language, for example.  She hopes to continue her studies in English Language and Literature Program. “I aspire to be a tour guide and promote Manggarai tourism to the world. So I want to learn English, ” she said, claiming to travel for an hour and a half to her school.

Different from Ratni, Nuriko Windawati, her colleague in class XI of IPA Department admitted that she want to become an agricultural engineer. Nuriko admitted wishing to advance the management of agriculture natural resources and plantation of rich West Manggarai Regency such as coffee, chocolate, and candlenut. “I want the farmers in Manggarai to get their agricultural value well,” he explained.

While Sumiati, a grade IX student of IPS, hopes to get a scholarship to UIN Jakarta and study in Management program. With a lecture in the department, Sumiati hopes to pursue entrepreneurship career of agricultural resources in the place of her birth.

Similar expectations were expressed by students at SMAN 2 Sano Nggoang. A number of students admitted interested in continuing their study to UIN Jakarta. Especially if they can continue college with scholarship.

Ishaq Robbin Rahmad, for example. This class XI IPA student aspires to become a doctor. Therefore, during the question and answer session, Robbin asked many questions about the selection, quota, and education of the doctor’s profession. “Here, the number of medical personnel is less. So, I want to be a doctor,” he said.

It is known that West Manggarai regency is one of 21 districts / cities of East Nusa Tenggara. Central Bureau of Statistics Survey (BPS) of Manggarai Regency 2015 noted, Human Development Index (HDI) of West Manggarai reached 60.04. This figure contributed to the East Nusa Tenggara HDI rate of 63.13 (BPS 2016), the third lowest national HDI after Papua (58.05) and West Papua (62.21). (usa)
