UIN Jakarta Channels Rp117 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Disaster-Affected Communities in Sumatra

Jakarta, UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, through its Social Trust Fund (STF), has distributed humanitarian assistance to communities affected by natural disasters across several regions of Sumatra. The aid was funded through donations collected from the UIN Jakarta academic community and the general public under the "UIN Jakarta Cares for Sumatra" campaign. The latest distribution report was issued on Monday (29 December 2025).

The fundraising campaign successfully collected Rp117,917,611 (approximately IDR 117.9 million). In addition to financial contributions, the initiative also gathered in-kind donations, including clothing, food supplies, baby necessities, and other essential items.

Humanitarian assistance was delivered to disaster-affected communities in Agam and Bukittinggi (West Sumatra), Takengon (Central Aceh), and Mandailing Natal (North Sumatra). Distribution was carried out in collaboration with several partner organizations, including Clothes for Charity, the UIN Jakarta Student Organization Forum (Forum UKM UIN Jakarta), IAIN Takengon, UIN Bukittinggi, and STAIN Mandailing Natal.

Beyond meeting immediate humanitarian needs, the program also focused on psychosocial recovery and educational support. Assistance included prayer equipment and sarongs for post-disaster spiritual recovery activities in Takengon, school uniforms and supplies for children in Mandailing Natal, and trauma-healing programs for disaster survivors in Bukittinggi.

As part of its commitment to supporting students, STF UIN Jakarta also provided scholarship assistance to UIN Jakarta students whose families were affected by the disasters, enabling them to continue their education despite challenging circumstances.

Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., described the initiative as a reflection of the university's commitment to humanitarian service.

"This solidarity movement demonstrates that a university is not only a center of knowledge but also a center of social compassion. We hope this assistance will help ease the burden on affected communities while strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation and humanitarianism," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of the Social Trust Fund UIN Jakarta, Prof. Amelia Fauzia, M.A., Ph.D., emphasized that the program's success was made possible through the collaboration of multiple stakeholders.

"Alhamdulillah, we have fulfilled the trust placed in us by our donors by delivering assistance directly to those in need. We sincerely thank the university leadership, lecturers, administrative staff, students, alumni, and members of the public who entrusted their donations to STF UIN Jakarta. May every act of generosity become a lasting source of blessings," she said.

Through the UIN Jakarta Cares for Sumatra initiative, the university hopes to foster a stronger culture of social responsibility and humanitarian solidarity while delivering meaningful support to communities in need. The program also reflects UIN Jakarta's commitment to fulfilling its broader mission as a higher education institution—advancing not only education and research but also meaningful community engagement and service.
