UIN Jakarta Becomes First PTKIN to Offer Specialist Medical Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Rectorate Building, UIN Online News — The Faculty of Medicine (FK) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta marked a major academic milestone following the official approval to open the Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS) in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The issuance of this permit completes the faculty’s medical education spectrum and positions it as the first Islamic State Higher Education Institution (PTKIN) under Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia to establish such a cutting-edge program.

The program’s authorization is stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, No. 976 of 2025, concerning the Opening of the Specialist Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, signed on November 3, 2025.

The decree specifies that the approval follows the program’s fulfillment of the minimum accreditation requirements for higher education programs. It also mandates that the program must comply with the National Standards for Higher Education and report its academic outcomes to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia no later than one month after the end of each semester.

The Dean of FK, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., FICS., expressed his deep appreciation for the collective support that led to this achievement.

Alhamdulillah, and many thanks to the university leadership and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The permit for our Specialist Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology has been officially issued. With this, UIN Jakarta now offers two specialist doctor programs. May it bring blessings and benefits to all,” he stated.

Previously, the specialist program had received approval to open the Specialist Medical Education Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine, as stated in the Ministerial Decree No. 474/E/0/2024. In addition, FK UIN Jakarta had already become the first medical faculty among PTKIN institutions to obtain authorization for a master’s program in Biomedical Science, through Ministerial Decree No. 24/A/O/2025.

Achmad Zaki also revealed that FK is preparing to open a specialist program in Pediatrics (IKA). This forthcoming program will serve as an advanced professional pathway for general practitioners to become Pediatric Specialists (Sp.A). It will focus on child healthcare from infancy to adolescence, covering general and infectious diseases as well as pediatric subspecialties, including cardiology, nephrology, and gastrohepatology.

Looking ahead, the Rector of UIN Jakarta expressed optimism that FK will continue to grow as a center for Islamic-based medical education.

“We hope this program will produce outstanding, ethical, and socially responsible specialists who play an active role in improving national healthcare,” he added.

As of mid-2025, the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta, established in 2005, has graduated approximately 1,200 medical doctors currently serving in various regions across Indonesia, continuing its mission to deliver quality healthcare to society.
