Jakarta, UIN Online News — Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., accompanied by Vice Rector for Cooperation Prof. Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D., held an official meeting with the Director General of Islamic Education (Pendis), Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Amien Suyitno, M.A., to report on the university's progress in obtaining State Legal Entity University (PTN-BH) status.
The meeting took place at the Office of the Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026). Also attending the meeting was the Director of Islamic Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Phil. Syahiron, M.A.
During the discussion, Rector Asep presented the progress UIN Jakarta has made in fulfilling the requirements for PTN-BH status. His report covered institutional governance reforms, improvements in academic quality, and various strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the university's competitiveness.
"We sincerely hope for the continued guidance and support of the Director General throughout the PTN-BH application process. His support is essential to ensuring that UIN Jakarta's institutional transformation proceeds successfully, enabling the university to make an even greater contribution to the advancement of Islamic higher education under the Ministry of Religious Affairs," he said.
According to the Rector, the transition toward PTN-BH status forms part of UIN Jakarta's long-term strategy to strengthen institutional autonomy, improve governance flexibility, and expand its capacity in academic development and research.
He added that achieving PTN-BH status would also reinforce the standing of state Islamic universities under the Ministry of Religious Affairs by enhancing governance, academic excellence, research capacity, and the development of highly qualified graduates.
Under Law No. 12 of 2012 on Higher Education, State Legal Entity Universities (PTN-BH) are granted greater institutional autonomy in managing academic, financial, and organizational affairs. The framework is designed to strengthen higher education institutions by improving governance while increasing their competitiveness at both the national and international levels.
With PTN-BH status, universities are expected to operate with greater flexibility, allowing them to respond more effectively to advances in science and technology, the acceleration of digital transformation, and the evolving needs of industry and society. The model is intended to encourage higher education institutions to become more innovative, adaptive, and impactful in fulfilling their academic mission.
