Rector Outlines Three Strategic Priorities for UIN Jakarta's Future Before Alumni Gathering

Serpong, UIN Online News — Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., presented the university's three key strategic priorities during an iftar gathering, alumni reunion, and charity event organized by the Central Alumni Association of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (IKALUIN) in Serpong on Friday (13 March 2026).

The event brought together prominent alumni, university leaders, and government officials, including IKALUIN Chairman Dr. H. TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily, Secretary General Dr. H. Rizaludin Kurniawan, M.Si., Secretary of the Directorate General of Islamic Education Prof. Arskal Salim, M.A., Ph.D., Director General of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Ahmad Najib Burhani, M.A., Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Fatwa Commission Prof. M. Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, M.A., and Former Rector of UIN Jakarta (2014–2019) Prof. Dede Rosyada, M.A.

Addressing the alumni, Prof. Asep explained that UIN Jakarta's development strategy is currently centered on three major priorities: strengthening academic reputation, accelerating institutional transformation, and expanding international recognition.

Strengthening Academic Reputation

Prof. Asep emphasized that building a strong academic culture is fundamental to enhancing the university's scholarly reputation. According to him, a vibrant academic environment provides the foundation for producing high-quality research, innovation, and intellectual contributions.

"A strong academic reputation can only be achieved through a supportive academic culture. This is what we continue to strengthen at UIN Jakarta," he said.

Accelerating Institutional Transformation

On institutional development, the Rector described UIN Jakarta's evolution as a continuous process of transformation. The institution has progressed from the Academy of Religious Sciences (ADIA) to the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) before becoming the comprehensive university it is today.

He also highlighted the university's administrative transformation—from operating as a conventional government work unit (Satker) to becoming a Public Service Agency (BLU), and its ongoing efforts to achieve the status of a State Islamic Higher Education Institution with Legal Entity Status (PTKN-BH).

"This transformation is an ongoing process aimed at strengthening institutional governance, autonomy, and competitiveness," he explained.

Expanding International Recognition

Prof. Asep stressed that global recognition has become an essential benchmark for modern universities. UIN Jakarta continues to encourage its academic programs to obtain international accreditation while improving the university's standing in global higher education rankings.

He noted that more than 50 academic programs have already earned international accreditation from organizations such as ASIIN and ACQUIN. At the national level, both the university and the majority of its study programs have also achieved the highest accreditation status, Unggul (Excellent).

In addition, UIN Jakarta is actively working to improve its performance in international university rankings, including the QS World University Rankings, Webometrics, and UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

"International recognition is no longer optional. It is an essential part of our efforts to enhance UIN Jakarta's quality and global competitiveness," he affirmed.

The Rector added that UIN Jakarta continues to adopt best practices in university governance and academic development from leading national and international institutions to further accelerate its institutional progress.

Concluding his remarks, Prof. Asep invited IKALUIN members to remain actively engaged in the university's future development.

"We hope our alumni will continue to contribute their ideas, insights, and support for the continued growth and advancement of UIN Jakarta," he concluded.
