Budget-Friendly, Low-Power: UIN Jakarta's Rp 5 Million Big Data Solution Ready to Aid 3T Education

Serang, UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta continues its commitment to developing inclusive and socially-oriented knowledge. A concrete manifestation of this commitment is the innovative EcoCluster, an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly big data learning device, developed by Dr. Taufik Edy Susanto, M.Sc.Tech., a lecturer at UIN Jakarta's Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). The device was recently launched at the State Building in Serang City on Friday (June 13, 2025).

Designed with the needs of Indonesia's disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions in mind, EcoCluster offers an accessible alternative to a wider audience. With a production cost of approximately Rp 5 million and power consumption under 45 watts, this tool provides significantly higher efficiency compared to conventional big data devices, which tend to be expensive and rely on heavy infrastructure.

“We want technology to be accessible to anyone, anywhere, without having to wait for everything to be perfect. EcoCluster was developed so that big data and AI learning processes can still run, even in places with minimal electricity and internet access,” said Dr. Taufik at the launch.

EcoCluster not only introduces technology but also opens new avenues for more equitable education. All software and learning modules used are provided open-source, allowing anyone to learn and develop without additional costs.

In its development, Dr. Taufik did not work alone. He involved a team from FST UIN Jakarta, driven by a spirit of cross-disciplinary collaboration. This initiative has received positive responses from various stakeholders, including UIN Jakarta, local governments, industry partners, and the academic community.

For Dr. Taufik, the presence of EcoCluster is inseparable from the values that have always thrived within UIN Jakarta, namely using knowledge as a means to foster empowerment. “Technology should liberate, not limit. With the right approach, we can make innovation a bridge of justice for all levels of society,” he expressed.

UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., welcomed the EcoCluster as part of the university's effort to ground knowledge, ensuring it doesn't remain theoretical but provides direct benefits to society.

“What Dr. Taufik and his team have done reflects the spirit of UIN Jakarta, developing knowledge that integrates with humanitarian values and social advocacy,” he said.

“We believe that innovations like this will continue to grow, becoming part of UIN Jakarta's contribution to building a more just and sustainable future,” the Rector added.
