Main Auditorium, UIN News Online – The Faculty of Islamic Studies (FDI) UIN Jakarta organized an international conference entitled “Progressive Thinking in Contemporary Islamic and Arabic Studies” at Harun Nasution Auditorium, campus I of UIN Jakarta, Tuesday-Thursday (August 8-10, 2017). The conference was attended by lecturers and researchers of Islamic and Arab studies from six countries, namely Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan and Morocco.

Dean of FDI Dr Hamka Hasan MA in his speech revealed that the international conference is expected to be a place to share both ideas and experiences among the lecturers and researchers of Islamic studies in various countries. He also expressed his gratitude to the lecturers and researchers who have participated in the conference.

“Hopefully this activity can formulate the better model of Islamic and Arabic studies,” he said

According to FDI publication, there are several of important speakers present in the event. Among them are Prof. Dr. Said Aqil al Munawwar, Prof. Dr. Nabilah Lubis, Prof. Dr. Huzaemah Tahido Yanggo (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesia), I’timad ‘Abd al-Shodiq’ Afifi (Jami’ah al-Azhar Egypt), Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rozzaq Aswad (al-Jami’ah Imam Abd al-Rahman , Syria), Nadya Hamaaliy (Jami’ah Sayid Muhammad ibn Abdullah, Maghribi).

On the same occasion, Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof Dr Dede Rosyada MA appreciated the conferece. He hopes that conferences which involve many academicians from different Muslim-majority countries will be able to recommend the better models of Islamic and Arab studies.

According to Dede, along with the current global trend, the world community becomes more interested in studying Islam. This condition becomes an opportunity as well as challenge in formulating the better teaching model of both Islam and Arabic. “This is related to our task in creating the better public understanding on Islam and Arabs to the public,” he explained.
