UIN Jakarta's Master of Public Health Program Introduces Health Security Vision to Freshmen
Faculty Lecture Hall, UIN Online News – The Master of Public Health Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, introduced its academic vision and character to incoming students through an orientation program. Carrying the theme “Leading Health Security Through Knowledge, Research, Innovation, and Islamic Values,” the orientation aimed to outline the program's academic focus, graduate profile, and research directions. The event took place in the Faculty Lecture Hall, Faculty of Health Sciences Building, on Tuesday (September 12, 2026).
The orientation was attended by Assistant Professor Muhammad Ajmal Shah, Ph.D., from the Department of Pharmacy at Hazara University Mansehra, Pakistan; Head of the Master of Public Health Program at UIN Jakarta, Fajar Ariyanti, SKM., M.Kes., Ph.D.; Secretary of the Master's Program, Dr. Ratri Ciptaningtyas, M.H.S.; along with members of the Master of Public Health academic community.
The program commenced with an introduction to the Master of Public Health Program delivered by Program Head Fajar Ariyanti, SKM., M.Kes., Ph.D. Fajar explained that the academic development of the Master of Public Health at UIN Jakarta is centered on the concept of Health Security. This focus serves as the foundation for the program's educational delivery, research, and public health interventions.
In the context of public health, Health Security is understood not merely as a reactive measure during health crises, but as a strategic approach to strengthening community resilience against diverse health challenges.
“Our direction toward Health Security is reflected in the program's three core missions: producing graduates with expertise in public health based on Health Security, conducting research in health development centered on Health Security, and executing public health interventions rooted in Health Security,” she stated.
These three missions are designed to support health development at both national and international levels. Consequently, the program prepares graduates to assume strategic roles—ranging from researchers and managers in Health Security to educators dedicated to enhancing public health resilience.
“We aim to become the leader in Health Security in Indonesia,” Fajar asserted.
This academic direction is also integrated into student coursework, research, and master's theses. Fajar encouraged students from the outset to develop studies aligned with Health Security while producing scholarly publications as a key milestone of their master's degree.
“I want our students' research and theses to be oriented toward Health Security,” she added.
The orientation continued with a general lecture featuring Assistant Professor Muhammad Ajmal Shah, Ph.D., from the Department of Pharmacy, Hazara University Mansehra, Pakistan. He presented a lecture titled "Scientific Writing for Publication Strategies, Techniques, and Best Practices."
In his presentation, Dr. Ajmal emphasized the critical role of research and publication for graduate students. He noted that student research should address real-world problems, rely on credible scientific sources, and be developed into publications that contribute meaningfully to scientific advancement.
“What makes a master’s graduate prominent is research output,” Dr. Ajmal emphasized.
The general lecture series concluded with a session by the Secretary of the Master of Public Health Program, Dr. Ratri Ciptaningtyas, M.H.S., who delivered a presentation titled "The Application of AI in Scientific Writing."
The program also included a functional training session led by Master of Public Health student Coach Sufyan, attended by incoming freshmen and senior students. The training incorporated everyday body movements designed to enhance physical fitness, facilitate daily activities, and reduce the risk of injury.
Through these comprehensive activities, new students were introduced to both the academic environment and the strategic direction of UIN Jakarta's Master of Public Health Program. The orientation serves as an essential first step for students to grasp the focus on Health Security, research expectations, and academic rigor required during their master's studies.
