UIN Jakarta Rector: GPA Not the Determinant of Success, Consistency and Personality are Key

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News – In his speech at the 136th graduation ceremony of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., emphasized that the future success of alumni is not solely determined by the cumulative achievement index (GPA), but by personality, consistency, and communication skills.

“GPA is important as a provision, but it is not the main determinant of success. Focus and consistency are far more decisive in achieving success,” said Prof. Asep before 554 graduates who were inaugurated on Sunday (25/5/2025) at the Harun Nasution Auditorium.

In his remarks, he expressed appreciation for the achievements of the best graduates. However, he also encouraged all graduates not to stop learning and to continue developing themselves, both in academic aspects, personality, and social contributions.

The Rector revealed that UIN Jakarta's reputation at the global level shows a positive trend. “For two consecutive years, we have been included in world rankings in various fields. Philosophy and sociology sciences broke into the world's top 700s, and communication is in the 800s. This is an extraordinary achievement resulting from the hard work of the entire academic community,” he explained.

He added that UIN Jakarta is currently developing four main pillars of campus transformation: digital literacy, digitalization of bureaucracy, green campus, and business independence. The campus already has two independent hospitals in Ciputat and Pondok Cabe, as well as electric vehicles and electric bicycles used to reduce pollution on campus.

“Tuition fee contributions (UKT) only cover 30% of campus funding. Therefore, we are building economic independence so that UIN does not fully depend on students. This is part of social responsibility and institutional strengthening,” he asserted.

Not only that, Prof. Asep also urged all graduates to show devotion to their parents. “Never hurt them. If you ignore your parents' blessings, do not expect to find ease in life,” his message was greeted with loud applause from the audience.

At the end of his speech, the rector encouraged the alumni to donate through the UIN Jakarta Applied Social Institute. He even set an example by donating an infaq of one million rupiah directly.

“Let us help friends who are still struggling with tuition fees. The donations you give will become an ongoing charity,” he concluded.

The Rector's speech served as a strong reminder that true success is not only measured by academic scores, but also by sincerity of heart, courage to step forward, and contribution to others.
