UIN Jakarta Public Health Study Program Students Launch "GAS-IN"

Rectorate Building, UIN Online News - In the implementation of the 2nd Field Learning Experience (PBL) program, VI semester students of Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta launched the "Exclusive Breastfeeding Movement to Prevent Stunting" (GAS-IN) program. This program was carried out in Cengkareng District, West Cengkareng Village, West Jakarta City, held from Friday (16/02/2024) to Thursday (07/3/2024).

The 2nd Field Learning Experience (PBL) is a follow-up to PBL I with an orientation towards the implementation of interventions on priority health problems found in PBL I. Through the identification of health problems carried out in the month of 16/02/2024. Through the identification of health problems carried out last October 2023 by students of the Public Health Study Program. In this 2nd PBL, group 6 public health students raised the theme "Nutritionally Poor Children" with the program theme "Exclusive Breastfeeding Implemented, Healthy and Happy Children". 

The intervention program carried out is based on the results of problem identification and priority determination of problems found in PBL I, namely the low level of exclusive breastfeeding in toddlers is one of the factors that influence the occurrence of stunting in the Cengkareng District Health Center Working Area, especially in toddlers in RW 10 West Cengkareng Village as a location that has been the focus of stunting.

The "GAS-IN" program focuses on preventing stunting through exclusive breastfeeding with the aim of increasing exclusive breastfeeding for infants from 0-6 months of age in the RW 10 area of Cengkareng Barat Village. This program consists of Exclusive Breastfeeding Counseling (PENSI), Lactation Discussion (DIKSI), and the use of additional media in the form of a Recipe Book for Breastfeeding Mothers: Local Supplementary Food in the form of printed media.

Exclusive Breastfeeding Counseling (PENSI) aims to increase the knowledge, awareness and understanding of breastfeeding mothers about the important benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for babies, mothers and families. Furthermore, the PENSI activity itself was held on February 27, 2024 with 40 participants consisting of breastfeeding mothers from RW 10 West Cengkareng Village. In the PENSI activity for breastfeeding mothers, Rahmah Hida Nurrizka, S.K.M., M.K.M, a lecturer at UIN Jakarta's Public Health Study Program, provided educational material about exclusive breastfeeding for babies.

In addition, a Lactation Discussion (DIKSI) was also held on March 1, 2024 at RW 10 Cengkareng Barat Village. The DIKSI activity was attended by 10 participants, consisting of pregnant women with the speaker, Narila Mutia Nasir, S.KM., M.KM., Ph.D, lecturer at UIN Jakarta Public Health Study Program. The DIKSI activity aims to increase the knowledge of pregnant women in supporting the smooth practice of exclusive breastfeeding and proper lactation management in infants when mothers enter the breastfeeding period. 

Not only the presentation of material, students of UIN Jakarta Public Health Study Program also distributed several books entitled, Recipes of Love for Breastfeeding Mothers: Local Supplementary Food as Additional Media for Pregnant Women to Know Nutritious Menu Recipes to Increase Maternal Nutrition Intake when Entering the Breastfeeding Period by Using Home Ingredients. 

To achieve the maximum target, in the PENSI and DIKSI activities, the students did not forget to invite the Posyandu cadres of RW 10 Cengkareng Barat Village as companions so that the cadres could benefit from the activities that had been carried out in the form of information sources related to breastfeeding.

In addition, at the end of the DIKSI activity, the students also gave katuk seeds to each Posyandu in RW 10 Cengkareng Barat Village to support the local ingredients needed in making recipes, and can be utilized by cadres to be cultivated as Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA).
