Main Auditorium, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta celebrated the promotion of Zulfiani and Didin Nuruddin Hidayat to the rank of Professor on Wednesday (03/15/2023), held at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, campus I of UIN Jakarta.
Professor Zulfiani inaugurated as Professor of Biology Education and Professor Didin as Professor of English Education at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training Sciences (FITK) UIN Jakarta.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by an inaugural speech from the two professors. Zulfiani delivered a speech titled “Inkuiri dan Teknologi Digital: Konsep dan Praktik Pembelajaran Biologi untuk Mempersiapkan Calon Guru dengan Kecakapan Abad 21” while Didin delivered a speech titled “Embracing the Global LandscapeL Effective Strategies for Improving English Teacher Educators’ Quality in Indonesia”.
Zulfiani in her speech emphasized the importance of natural science learning innovations such as biology for school and university students. This cannot be separated from the current conventional learning design.
“The current learning design still uses conventional methods which provide less opportunities for students to develop their concept mastery and thinking skills,” she said.
Therefore, she recommended learning innovations such as biotechnology learning to improve the ability of scientific inquiry models. She also encourages the application of an Adaptive Learning System for 21st century students that emphasizes visual-audiovisual stimuli.
Meanwhile, Didin in his inaugural speech emphasizing the importance of innovation in English learning in Indonesia, especially from the personal initiative of English educators. According to him, personal initiative one of three important aspects in increasing the effectiveness of English education, apart from institutional and government support.
According to Didin, educators’ personal initiative refers to actions and strategies that English teachers can take to improve their teaching effectiveness.
“The personal initiatives of English educators relate to a number of strategic aspects. Among them are self-capacity development, networking with the English language educator community, participating in knowledge dissemination, and fulfilling their responsibilities as educators.
On the same occasion, Rector of UIN Jakarta Asep Saepudin Jahar in his remarks expressed his appreciation for the achievements of the two FITK lecturers in achieving the rank of professor. According to Asep, professorship is indeed the highest career in the academic world, but it is not the end of one’s academic career.
“When a lecturer is appointed as a professor, he/she is required to become a driving force in academic development. Professors are expected to always encourage scientific studies and innovative research,” said Rector Asep. (zm/usa)
