UIN Jakarta Confer Honorary Doctorate to H.E Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh
Main Auditorium, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta confer an honorary doctorate degree (DR.HC.) to the Minister of of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia H.E Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh on Monday (03/28/2022), held at Harun Nasution Auditorium, campus I of UIN Jakarta.
The conferment ceremony, which was opened directly by the Chair of University Senate Abuddin Nata and the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis. Acting as Promoter and Co-Promoter, Professor of UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. K.H. Said Agil Husin al-Munawar and Rector Amany herself.
Professorr Said in his speech revealed, Shaykh Abdullathif is one of the important figures in Islam and science in Saudi Arabia and the world. In addition to having an Islamic educational and scientific background, Sheikh Abdullathif also has extensive experience as an official with an important role in the field of Islamic thought.
“From his curriculum vitae, we see that Shaykh Abdullathif deserves the Dr. HC. from UIN Jakarta,” he said.
It is known, Shaykh Abdullathif is a bachelor in Sharia and a master in Fiqh Muqoron. Furthermore, he completed his doctoral education in the field of da'wah science from the Imam Muhammad bin Saud University.
On various occasions, Shaykh Abdullathif was quite active in encouraging Wasathiyah Islamic da'wah. With his important role in government ranks, his efforts in implementing moderate Islamic da'wah have become very decisive for the current style of Islam in Saudi Arabia.
On the same occasion, Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis who also acts as Co-Promoter in her speech said that UIN Jakarta awarded Dr. HC. to Sheikh Abdullathif for his services in encouraging the development of Islamic studies in many countries. In addition, Sheikh Abdullathif also played an important role in strengthening the understanding of Wasathiyah Islam both within and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
“Sheikh Abdullathif has played an important role in spreading the culture of religious moderation and tolerance among scholars and ulemas,” said Rector Amany.
Furthermore, Amany hopes that this award will further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the government of Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, not only in the religious field, but also in the field of education.
Representing the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs who is unable to attend, Indonesian Vice Minister of Religious Affairs Zainut Tauhid stated that Sheikh Abdullathif is a progressive, innovative, and assertive figure. He also synergizes with the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in encouraging Wasathiyah Islam.
“In addition, I also hope that this award will strengthen the relations between the two countries,” he said.
Also present in the conferment ceremony, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sheikh Essam bin Abed al-Thaqafi and the Head of the Religious Attache of the Saudi Arabian Embassy, Ahmad bin Isa Al Hazmiy, The Director General of Islamic Guidance at the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kamaruddin Amin, Director General of Islamic Education Ali Ramdhani, and the Chair of the UIN Jakarta Alumni Association as well as the Chair of the F-PG DPR RI Tb. Ace Hasan Syadzily.
