To Strengthen Academic Cooperation, UIN Jakarta and UMMA University Kenya Sign an MoU

Diorama Room, UIN News Online – In order to strengthen, promote, and develop academic cooperation, UIN Jakarta and UMMA University Kenya are agree to collaborate. The agreement was stated in the MoU signed by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis and Vice Chancellor of UMMA University Kenya Halima Saado Abdillahi, Friday (03/18/2022) at Diorama Room, campus I of UIN Jakarta.

Present in the event, Vice Rectors, Deans, Directors of Institutes, Faculty members and other invited guests.

Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis in her welcoming speech expressed her gratitude for Halima’s visit to UIN Jakarta. “On behalf of UIN Jakarta, I welcome our honored guest, the Vice Chancellor of UMMA University, one of the most renowned higher education instituions in Kenya,” she said.

As one of the oldest Islamic higher instituion in Indonesia, she continued, UIN Jakarta currently has 12 faculties, 1 Graduate School (SPs) with more than 34.000 students enrolled coming from all over of Indonesia and overseas.

“And today, we are witnessing another historic moment for many of us, an initiative to develop and strengthen academic partnerships in the context of Asian-African relations between our universities: UIN Jakarta and UMMA University, Kenya,” said Rector Amany.

On the same occasion, Vice Chancellor of UMMA University Kenya Halima Saado Abdillahi said that despite being on two different continents, both UIN Jakarta and UMMA University shares similiar value.

“Despite the fact that we are in two different continent, we still articulate similar value and desire towards empowering the ummah,” she said.

She also added that collaboration between universities will shape and improve both institutions for many years to come. “The signing of this MoU will bring people together to pursue knowledge, improve the quality of life around the world and enhance the understanding of the value of pluralism, ” she added.

For information, both parties will promote cooperation in the following areas: Exchange of students, Exchange of academic staffs, organization of joint academic and scientific activities, development of collaborative research projects, exchange of publications, visiting professors/Fellows, and any other areas of cooperation to be mutually agreed upon by the parties.
