The 5th ICIIS, 45 Selected Papers are Presented

Lombok, UIN News Online – Graduate School (SPs) UIN Jakarta holds the 5th annual International Colloqium on Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies (ICIIS) 2022 conference in Lombok, Wednesday (10/19/2022). The conference, which is planned to be held until Thursday (20/10/2022), is expected to present the contribution of academic institutions to social life after the Covid-19 Pandemic in the last three years.

The conference titled “Religion, Education, and Science on Technology Towards a More Inclusive and Sustainable Future” was opened directly by the Director of SPs UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar. Also present at the opening, the Rector of UIN Mataram, Masnun Thahir and officials from various partner universities such as UIN Jambi and Umma University, Kenya.

Asep in his opening remarks said ICIIS was held with a topic that cannot be separated from the realities of people's lives who have been faced with the Covid-19 pandemic situation since the last three years.

“In almost three years, we are faced with a pandemic situation that requires various activities to be carried out flexibly. And, this activity is carried out as part of how the academic world can contribute to people's lives after the pandemic,” said Asep.

He also added that the main topics of the conference which covered the fields of religion, science, education, and technology also inseparable from the efforts of UIN Jakarta and partner universities in understanding and finding solutions to life after the pandemic. “These areas are part of the academic world's efforts to help build an inclusive and sustainable future that can be achieved,” he added.

It is known that this 5th ICIIS activity was organized by SPs UIN Jakarta and supported by UIN Jambi, Graduate School of UIN Mataram, State Hindu University I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Bali, Umma University of Kenya. ICIIS itself has been held since 2018 where the papers presented were published in the form of proceedings by EAI Publisher, while for 2022 it was published by Taylor and Francis.

In addition to presenting a number of selected papers, ICIIS was filled with three seminar panels that presented a number of speakers. The first session of the seminar had the topic “Open, inclusive, and sustainable knowledge organization in faith-based universities: A way forward”. This session presents Fides a. del Castillo from De La Salle University-Manila-Philipnes and Abdullah Sahin from Warwick University UK as speakers.

Then, session two with the topic “Towards a Transmodern Transformation of Our Global World: Muslim Society's Challenges and Opportunities”. This session presents Nadirsyah Hosen from Monash University, Australia, and Philip M. Henry from the University of Derby UK as speakers.

Meanwhile, session three with the topic "Faith, Science, Technology, and Future Sustainability" presents Lysann Zander from Leibniz Universitat Hannover Germany; Sidrotun Naim from IPMI BUsiness School/Ministry of Health Indonesia; and Carl Helshing from High Point University, North Carolina USA.

On the same occasion, the chairman of organizing committee Arif Zamhari said that the committee had received 118 papers submitted by participants since ICIIS was announced to the public. “And through the consideration of the jury, only 45 papers were accepted to be presented at this conference,” said Arif.

All accepted papers are then presented for later input.  Then, after the writing is perfected, all articles will be published by Taylor and Francis publishers in the form of international proceedings. (zm/usa)
