Rectorate, UIN News Online – Women’s participation is the key to economic development which will lead to a significant increase in the country’s economic growth.
This was said by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis in her speech during the opening of webinar titled “Peran Perempuan Dalam Meningkatkan Pertumbuhan Investasi” organized by the Center for the Study of Gender and Child (PSGA) UIN Jakarta on Thursday (05/27/2021).
Moderated by Iin Kendedes, this seminar presents Euis Amalia (UIN Jakarta) and Tina Talisa (Expert Staff of the Indonesian Ministry of Investment, representing the Indonesian Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia who is unable to attend).
According to Rector Amany, women’s role can bring a significant increase to the country's economic growth, one of them is through the UMKM (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector. The women-owned business (UMKM), she continued, tend to employ more women than other business owned by men.
“This will certainly have an impact on the increase in the rate of wage employment among women,” said Rector.
She also added that currently women have started investing in the capital market. “Data from The Indonesia Central Securities Depository (KSEI) show that the number of women investors in 2021 has reached 38.63% with total assets worth of IDR 206.15 trillion,” she added.
In line with Rector Amany, Expert Staff of the Indonesian Ministry of Investment Tina Talisa said that outside the domestic sector, women participation managed to provide a large contribution, this is evidenced by data showing that 64.5% of MSME actors are women and have succeeded in creating jobs for 77.4 million of people.
“This is an extraordinary role. Therefore, the state must provide incentives in the form of policies that supports the women MSME actors,” said Tina. (usa)
