Rector of UIN Jakarta invites women to strengthen social empathy
Ciputat, UIN News Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis invites all member of the Dharma Wanita Association of State Islamic Religious Higher Education Institution (DWP-PTKIN) to strengthen their social empathy in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic. Strong social empathy is believed to be a valuable asset for the Indonesian people in facing difficult situations.
This was said by the Rector in the DWP-PTKIN virtual halal bi halal, Monday (06/22/2020) themed ‘Merajut Harmoni Memperkuat Silaturahmi di Tengah Covid 19’. Present in the event, Chairman of PTKIN's DWP Forum Titi Kadi M and DWP Representative of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs Anisa Imam Syafei. Acting as the host, chairperson of IAIN Jember DWP Erma Fatmawati .
In her presentation, Amany said that this pandemic had a huge impact on the world community, including Indonesia. In Indonesia, she said, in addition to causing the number of sick and dead victims, the pandemic also caused enormous socio-economic effects.
Many economic activities were affected, causing deep economic pressure. As a result, many people experience a decrease in purchasing power, making it difficult to fulfill their daily needs.
Therefore, Rector Amany appealed to the community, especially the PTKIN-DWP members to further encourage awareness actions during the pandemic. “In the midst of Covid-19, we need to raise our concern with others. Because Covid-19 has an extraordinary impact,” she said.
According to Amany, the slightest form of kindness can strengthen can bring a harmony in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Don't wait for tomorrow, or wait for someone else to do it first. We never know what will happen tomorrow,” Amany said.
Furthermore, the state needed all the support from all elements to work together “So, we must do all we can, to help our beloved country,” she added.
On that occasion, Professor Amany also gave an example of how members of the UIN Jakarta community worked hand in hand to help students and the surrounding communities affected by Covid 19. During the pandemic emergency, it was determined that many UIN Jakarta students were affected and could not return to their home of origin.
“There were hundreds of students still living in the dormitory at that time, 1200 students who lived in their “Kost-an”, and more than 100 international students living around the campus. At the same time, an environment accustomed to supporting the daily needs of students such as food stalls and other convenience stores stopped its activities. To get around this, she and the UIN Jakarta academic community opened a public kitchen service. Other elements such as the STF UIN Jakarta Social Humanitarian Institute were also alerted to participate in distributing aid from the donors.
“Alhamdulillah, until the end of the Ramadan, approximately 24 thousand rice packets have been distributed to students and communities around the campus,” she concluded. (usa/zm)
