Rector Amany Lubis Attends International Conference of the World Muslim Community Council in Abu Dhabi

Rectorate, UIN News Online – The World Muslim Community Council held an International Conference themed “Islamic Unity: The Concept, Opportunities and Challenges” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 8-9 May 2022.  International conference explore the history of Islamic unity and its effects on all aspects of life, as well as its role in establishing human civilization and the historical circumstances that led to the decline in the understanding of Islamic unity and the misconceptions around it.

A number of officials and former state officials were present at the event, such as the former President of Mauritius, Amenah Gurib Fakim. According to several sources, no less than 20 ministerial-level officials attended and gave remarks, including the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Director of the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ICESCO), as well as several ministers from Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey. , and Malaysia.

The Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs who should have also attended the event was only represented by the Expert Staff for Law and Human Rights, Abu Rokhmad. Meanwhile, from UIN Jakarta, who is also the representative of Indonesia, it was attended by Rector Amany Lubis and lecturer at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Muhbib Abdul Wahab.

Alhamdulillah, I got the opportunity to speak in the forum. My speech about religious moderation and religious harmony in Indonesia received quite a good appreciation from the participants,” said Rector Amany to UIN News Online on Tuesday (05/17/2022).

The conference was also held to coincide with the celebration of the fourth anniversary of the founding of the World Muslim Community Council. UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan opened the conference and gave a message of peace to all those present.

The Rector said that Indonesia could be an example of a country with good religious harmony in the world. Despite the diversity of tribes, cultures, ethnicities, and religions, the Indonesian people always live in harmony and peace.

“Religious harmony and moderation that we continue to maintain will serve as an important asset for national development,” said Rector Amany. (ns/usa)
