Public Lecture Sufism, Experts Talk about Islamic Studies in the New Normal Era

FU, UIN News Online – Living conditions after the Covid-19 pandemic have greatly affected various aspects of human life. Many things have also changed as an effort and form of adaptation to the New Normal Era. What about Islamic studies? To answer this problem, the Sufism Study Program, Usuluddin Faculty (FU) UIN Jakarta, in collaboration with UIN Palembang holds hybrid public lecture on Monday (09/19/2022) themed “Kajian Islam di Era New Normal: Tantangan dan Prospek” at FU theater and zoom application.

Moderated by Lisfa Sentosa Aisyah, this event invites three exprert speakers, namely Luqman Hakim (Head of Ma’had Aly Tasawuf PP Raudhatul Muhibbin Bogor), Alfi Julizun Azwar (Lecturer at FU UIN Palembang), and Muhammad Abdul Ghoffar (CEO of Al-Mahira Publishing).

Dean of FU UIN Jakarta Yusuf Rahman in his opening remarks said that the theme of the public lecture this time was very relevant to the current development of Sufism.

“Our theme is about Islamic studies in the new normal, this is important because it is one of the responses to our current situation and conditions, along with challenges and prospects. How humans are required to be able to adapt to the progress of the times, especially information technology, and how it clashes with Islamic studies, especially in Sufism, will be discussed at this event,” said Yusuf.

The first speaker, Lecturer of the Ushuluddin Faculty of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, Alfi Julizun Azwar delivered material on Revolutive Islam: from MTQ Tradition Towards MQQ Civilization.

This revolutionary Islam intends to look at Islamic issues in various contextual contexts. Among them were religious issues during the Covid-19 pandemic, including social distancing during congretional prayers, postponement of religious holidays, legal justice for scholars, studies at Islamic boarding schools and madrasas to postponement of hajj and umrah as well as MTQ issues.

The question, he added, why should MTQ be revolutionized? How to revolutionize it and what are the implications? Because the branches of the competition are stagnant, the field of science is also only limited to certain knowledge, personal involvement has not changed much, including the participants.

“The rationale is that Iqra's lafaz is wider than recitations, the Qur'an as a guide for all mankind for human safety in the world and the hereafter and the shift of the Industrial revolution 4.0 to Society 5.0. How can the Al-Quran be widely preached. So the nuance is more to civilization, not just tradition,” he said.

The second speaker, the Head of Ma'had Aly Tasawuf PP Raudhatul Muhibbin Bogor Luqman Hakim, explained the material about Takhalli-Tahalli-Tajalli as a Sufistic Human Resource Development Method.

Meanwhile the third speaker Muhammad Abdul Ghoffar explained the Opportunities and Challenges in Post-Pandemic Al-Quran Publishing, including innovations in publishing the Al-Quran. (fu/man/usa)
