Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta was established in 1982 in line with the demands of the progress and dynamics of Islamic education in Indonesia. One of the founding figures, Prof. Dr. Harun Nasution, saw the importance of an educational institution that organizes comprehensive, in-depth, and rational Islamic studies at the postgraduate level, so that scholars, intellectuals, and intellectuals who are able to make ijtihad in answering the problems that arise in their time are born. In its development, SPs offers Master and Doctoral degrees in Islamic Studies with various concentrations.

There are more than ten concentrations offered at the two levels of education, namely Islamic Thought (Theology, Philosophy, and Sufism), Islamic Education, Sharia/Fiqh, History of Civilization, Arabic Language and Literature, Interdisciplinary Tafsir, Hadith and Prophetic Tradition, Da'wah Islamiyah, Sharia Economics, Islamic Banking and Financial Management, Islamic Psychology, Religious Studies, Gender Islamic Studies, Islam and Peace Studies, Islamic Area Studies, Islamic Manuscript Studies, and Indonesian Islamic Philology.
