Professor Azra's body is Scheduled to Arrive Tonight

Rectorate, UIN News Online – The body of the Professor and Rector of UIN Jakarta for the period 1998-2006, Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra M.Phil., MA., CBE., is scheduled to depart from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Indonesia on Monday night at 20.45 Malaysian time (09/19/2022) and expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, at 21.05 WIB.

This was said by Vice Rector for General Administration of UIN Jakarta Ahmad Rodoni to UIN News Online on Monday (09/19/2022). After arriving at Soekarno-Hatta airport, Rodoni added, the body of the late Professor Azra would be picked transferred to funeral home. On Tuesday (09/20/2022) at 06.30-07.00 WIB, the body will be prayed at the Harun Nasution Main Auditorium, Campus I of UIN Jakarta.

“At 07.00-09.00 WIB, the body will be sent for burial at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, South Jakarta,” said Rodoni.

Furthermore, Rodoni revealed, the family and academic community of UIN Jakarta scheduled tahlil and prayer activities until the third day of Prof Azra’s death which fell on Tuesday (09/20/2022). This activity is carried out in a hybrid manner through prayer activities at the funeral home and online through zoom application and YouTube.

For information, Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra M.Phil., MA., CBE., passed away at 67 on Sunday (09/18/2022) after previously falling ill while visiting Malaysia. Professor Azyumardi was declared ill on his flight to Malaysia on Friday, September 16, 2022. His visit to Malaysia to attend an International Islamic Cosmopolitan Conference in Selangor at the invitation of the Malaysian Islamic Youth Force (ABIM).

During his tenure as Rector, IAIN Jakarta succeeded in transforming its status to UIN Jakarta with the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 031 Dated May 20, 2022. This puts UIN Jakarta as the first PTKIN with the status of UIN in Indonesia.

Through this transformation, UIN Jakarta can further develop many faculties and study programs based on the integration of knowledge. This is marked by the presence of faculties in the UIN era such as the Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Faculty of Medicine.

This transformation also inspired a number of other PTKIN to transform their status from STAIN or IAIN to UIN. Until now, there are 29 PTKIN with UIN status with the addition of five UIN in 2022, namely UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar, UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan, UIN Sheikh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan, and UIN Salatiga. (mf/zm/usa)
