Prof Masykuri Abdillah will launch 2 of his books
Rectorate, UIN News online – Professor at the Faculty of Sharia and Law and Director of Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Jakarta for the 2015-2019 period, Masykuri Abdillah, will launch two of his books on Thursday (11/25/2021). The launch event as well as the book review will be carried out offline at The Akmani Hotel Jakarta and online via the Zoom Meeting platform.
This was conveyed by Masykuri Abdillah to BERITA UIN Online, Wednesday (24/11). The first book to be launched entitled Islam Agama Kedamaian (published by Kompas Gramedia), while the second book entitled Islam dan Etika Kehidupan Berbangsa (published by Mizan).
The launch and review of Masykuri Abdillah's book will be attended by a number of groups, such as academics, religious leaders, and state officials. Among them, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH Ma'ruf Amin, who will also deliver his speech at the event.
Meanwhile for the book review, there will be five speakers, namely Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) Mohammad Mahmud MD, Professor of UIN Jakarta Azyumardi Azra, Chairman of PBNU Said Aqil Siraj, Professor of Driyakara College of Philosophy Jakarta Franz Magniz Suseno, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz Ahmad.
In the first book entitled Islam Agama Kedamaian, Masykuri said that Islam is a religion that carries a mission of mercy for the universe (rahmah lil'alamin), which teaches peace, tolerance, and harmony in the life of society and the state. The emergence of acts of violence perpetrated by radical, extreme, and jihadi groups is actually only based on a literal understanding of the texts of the Qur'an and hadith.
The context of the revelation of the texts (asbab al-nuzul), according to him, shows that war jihad is only carried out defensively. To respond to the thoughts and actions of radical and extreme groups, Muslim scholars and intellectuals in the world then promote a moderate understanding of Islam (wasathiyyah).
“With this understanding of wasathiyyah Islam, Muslims in Indonesia can live in peace and harmony while maintaining the nation’s diversity,” said Masykuri.
He also added that Indonesia is now considered the most tolerant and most democratic Muslim country in the world. Many people expect Indonesia to be a model for a modern, democratic Muslim state.
“Therefore, various active development efforts are needed, so that the Indonesian nation will not only become an object, but also a subject of globalization,” he added.
While in the second book entitled Islam dan Etika Kehidupan Berbangsa, Masykuri said that Islam is a religion that not only teaches a belief system (aqidah) and a legal system (sharia), but ethical-moral standards that must be practiced in the life of society and the state.
In the context of current state life, he said, the democratic system is seen as a system that respects humanity and includes an ethical dimension.
However, this system also contains certain weaknesses. According to Masykuri, this can be minimized if the practice of democracy is accompanied by political ethics, which in the Islamic perspective does not only have external dimensions but also esoteric and spiritual dimensions.
Masykuri added that Indonesian Islamic scholars and leaders have expressed issues and ethical values contained in democracy, such as human rights, pluralism, and tolerance.
“To strengthen democracy in this country, political education that includes the ethics of national and state life is absolutely necessary,” said Masykuri.
With this political ethic, said Masykuri, on the one hand, the political elite and the government have the responsibility in making public policies and implementing them for the benefit of the nation. While on the other hand, citizens can express their political rights responsibly, including maintaining tolerance and peace in people's lives. (usa/ns)
