in the FerienJob (Working Holiday) Program in Germany

  1. First of all, we, the leadership and academic community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, are very surprised and concerned about the news of the FerienJob (Working Holiday) program to Germany which is allegedly related to Trafficking in Persons (TPPO).
  2. We, the leadership and academic community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, fully support this case to be handled and resolved in accordance with applicable regulations.
  3. It is true that in the academic year 2023, as many as 8 (eight) students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta from Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), participated in the program starting from October-December 2023.
  4. There is an umbrella of program participation in the form of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology of Binawan University and the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in the field of education and research by utilizing the resources of the parties for mutual progress. The area of the Memorandum of Agreement itself includes the implementation of the Tri Darma of Higher Education.
  5. Further introduction of the Working Holiday program in Germany for UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta students was carried out by requesting information from Binawan University which in 2022 had already held this program.
  6. The information provided is in the form of information on how the Working Holiday program in Germany is organized, the scope of the workplace, the achievements of the program, the benefits obtained by students, and the connection between the program and the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) Program. Information delivery was carried out in the Binawan University education room by representatives from Binawan University.
  7. Internally, the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta deepens the competencies that students will gain and the program's connection with the direction of internationalization in accordance with the Vision of UIN Jakarta.
  8. Information about the Working Holiday Program was delivered several times by requesting speakers from Binawan University so that students are free to ask questions and get clearer information.
  9. The Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Jakarta itself asks interested students to explore information related to this program from other reliable sources. In addition, the faculty conveys program information directly to parents regarding the profile, benefits, and risks of the program that participants must bear.
  10. The Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta asks interested students to also discuss their participation with their parents. Then, the faculty conducts an internal selection, especially for students who are about to enter the VII semester (there are no lectures in the classroom) and the English base line as their communication capital while in Germany.
  11. UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's participation through Binawan University processing is carried out while adhering to procedural steps and fulfillment of legal aspects and costs for document preparation, including German language preparation, student readiness for culture and social environment in Germany, work life, work ethic, and life in a wohnung/apartment.
  12. Faculty of Science and Technology students who finally passed the selection amounted to 8 people where before departure, students already knew where more or less would be placed. Because each of them is included in the WA Group
  13. Before departure, the Faculty of Science and Technology UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta itself conducted a comprehensive check of the preparation of the selected students both from physical readiness, logistics, and others. This is necessary so that the participating students do not experience problems while in Germany.
  14. Regarding the MBKM Program, it should be noted that all students who depart are seventh semester students who have completed all lectures and are just writing a thesis. Therefore, this activity does not follow the MBKM Program scheme. However, it is hoped that students can compile a thesis based on their internship experience in Germany as well as gain international experience for their future academic and career advancement.
  15. During the program, the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta through the Head of Agribusiness Study Program formed a team that monitors students through WA Group. Coordination and monitoring of participating students is also carried out by telephone and zoom during their Working Holiday program in Germany. In addition, the assigned team continues to coordinate with Binawan University, especially in anticipating problems that can arise at any time.
  16. Regarding the obstacles and barriers faced by participating students while in Germany, the team of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta always tries to coordinate with Binawan University in order to condition support according to the needs of the students.
  17. Throughout December 2023 to January 2024, the Working Holiday students in Germany gradually completed this program in accordance with the contract. All of them returned to Indonesia safely and are now completing their respective studies.
  18. On January 17, 2024, the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a program evaluation by inviting all students involved in the program. In the reports made by students and presented in front of all participants of the program evaluation, it was seen that they had a positive experience during the program.
  19. Regarding Working Holiday activities in the future, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is committed to fully following the policies of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek) RI and henceforth will not participate in this program until there are evaluation results in accordance with applicable regulations.
