Post-pandemic Caused Many Polemics in the Economic Sector

Diorama Room, UIN News Online – Global situation changed after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, causing a lot of polemics in the economic sector. In addition, there are also domestic challenges, employment issues, and the internet as a medium for public information. This was stated by the Head of the Political and Social Department of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Arya Fernandes in his presentation at a seminar entitled “Berkiprah dalam Situasi yang Rentan Berubah, Tidak Pasti dan kompetitif” held at Diorama Room, campus I of UIN Jakarta on Thursday (11/17/2022). He said that the global economy still facing multiple shocks and uncertainties due to the food and energy crises caused by the wars between Ukraine and Russia. Arya further explained, although global economic growth is predicted to experience a slowdown, the domestic government of Indonesia is quite optimistic because it can lead to economic growth. Meanwhile, from the public side, there is a sense of optimism for future economic improvement. “I hope that students can be more sensitive in seeing what is happening in the world and in Indonesia and have references to be more enthusiastic about carrying out activities outside campus by expanding networks and having big ambitions,” he said. Entering the world of research, he added, there would be stiff competition and the trend of non-state research institutions (NGOs and research institutes) having difficulty in accessing sources of funding. As new graduates, you can start your career in research from the bottom, such as enumerators, supervisors, and junior researchers. He emphasized that competition to enter the world of research is not easy because they have to compete with fresh graduates from other campuses. The explanation mentioned earlier should be a reference for building confidence in one's own potential. According to him, there are several research themes that are currently in demand, such as the 2024 Election, research on health, as well as research related to climate change and Indonesia's role in ASEAN leadership. “Start honing your abilities and also equip yourself with the latest information updates,” said Arya.
