Ombudsman RI Chairman Emphasizes Three Pillars of Integrity for New UIN Jakarta Students
Main Field, UIN News Online – Chairman of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2026-2031 period, H. Nuzran Joher, S.Ag., M.Si., attended as the Keynote Speaker at the Academic and Student Culture Orientation (PBAK) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta 2026, Wednesday (26/08/2026). In his speech, Nuzran emphasized the importance of integrating digital transformation and environmental sustainability awareness based on three pillars: caring, courage, and justice. This is supported by a moral foundation, namely integrity.
In his speech, Nuzran urged the new students of UIN Jakarta to build integrity from the moment they enter college. According to him, intelligence and technological capabilities must go hand in hand with care, courage, and justice as the foundation for building a generation with integrity.
Furthermore, digital transformation and environmental sustainability awareness without integrity have the potential to spark cybercrime and the spread of hoaxes. Meanwhile, environmental care without courage will only result in turning a blind eye to environmental destruction.
“Technology without integrity gives birth to cybercrime and hoax spreaders. Environmental care without courage will only lead to indifference toward environmental destruction. And none of these innovations will be meaningful if they do not culminate in social justice,” stated Mr. Nuzran.
As Chairman of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia, Nuzran also introduced the role of the institution responsible for supervising the provision of public services. He explained that the Ombudsman possesses the authority to oversee public service providers at both central and regional government levels, including state-owned enterprises and private entities utilizing state or regional budgets.
He assessed that the nation's problems stem not merely from a shortage of intelligent human resources, but also from an integrity crisis and a loss of the sense of justice. According to him, poor public service or maladministration occurs when trust holders lose their integrity.
“The nation's greatest enemy is not that we lack smart people or tech-savvy individuals, but rather an integrity crisis and the loss of a sense of justice,” he asserted.
Therefore, Nuzran encouraged the new students of UIN Jakarta to uphold the three main pillars in building integrity: caring, courage, and justice.
The first point highlighted by Nuzran was care. Nuzran reminded students not to be selfish or indifferent toward their surrounding environment. Such care can begin with simple actions, such as saving energy, reducing plastic waste, and preserving the campus environment.
Continuing on this note, Nuzran also emphasized that students are urged to have the courage to pay attention to the quality of public services. Should students encounter convoluted campus services or rights violations, he reminded them not to let such issues pass unaddressed.
According to Nuzran, integrity requires the courage to declare what is right as right and what is wrong as wrong. He encouraged students not to fear being different as long as they remain on the path of truth and justice.
In the context of academic life, this courage also encompasses rejecting various forms of misconduct, such as plagiarism and proxy attendance (titip absen). Nuzran highlighted that the Ombudsman cannot work alone and requires public participation, including from students, to report suspected maladministration and legal violations encountered.
In addition, Nuzran stressed that justice is not merely a concept written in regulations or legal books, but must be felt by society. He encouraged students to become an inclusive generation that upholds human values and does not discriminate against anyone based on their background.
Highlighting the technological era, he advised students to ensure that technology serves as a tool to bridge gaps rather than widen injustice. Students were also urged to defend the rights of marginalized groups.
Closing his speech, Nuzran reminded the new students that their journey at UIN Jakarta is not solely about achieving grade point averages or academic degrees. According to him, the campus is a space to forge integrity and prepare students to face life while contributing to the nation.
“Intelligence without integrity is a danger. Power without justice is tyranny. Be a digital generation with a green vision,” he advised the new students of UIN Jakarta.
In closing, the series of activities continued with a symbolic tree planting ceremony by the Chairman of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia, H. Nuzran Joher, S.Ag., M.Si., Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., Secretary of the Senate, Prof. Bambang Suryadi, Ph.D., the UIN Jakarta Student Executive Board (DEMA), and the Chairman of the PBAK 2026 Committee. The event then proceeded with the pinning of participant badges onto the new students of the class of 2026. This closing ceremony symbolized UIN Jakarta's commitment to implementing the PBAK 2026 theme, “Smart in Technology, Wise in Ecology, Realizing the Ulul Albab Generation for Nation Building,” through the reinforcement of environmental awareness alongside digital transformation.
