FITK UIN Jakarta holds the 7th International Conference on Education in Muslim Society (ICEMS)
Rectorate, UIN News Online – The Faculty of Educational Sciences (FITK) UIN Jakarta holds the 7th International Conference on Education in Muslim Society (virtually) with the theme “Embracing the New Normal: Changing Roles of Students, Teachers, and Technologies in Shifting Education Landscape” on Wednesday (10/06/2021).
The conference, which inaugurated bu the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis also presents a number of speakers, namely Simon Bedford (Western Sydney University, Australia), Robin Ersing (University of South Florida, USA), Ismi Arif Ismail (Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia), Ting Wang (University of Canberra, Australia), Philip Henry (University of Derby, UK), Idle Farah (Umma University, Kenya), Muhammad Zuhdi (UIN Jakarta), Yuli Rahmawati (Universitas Negeri Jakarta), Didin Nuruddin Hidayat (UIN Jakarta) and Munasprianto Ramli (UIN Jakarta).
Also present in the event, the Indonesian Vice Minister of Religious Affairs Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi who deliver his keynote speech representing the Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas who is unable to attend.
Dean of FITK UIN Jakarta in her remarks expressed her deepest gratitude to all parties who have provided their exceptional support for the success of this annual conference.
“I hope this event can invite relevant stakeholders to collaboratively works and learn with the experts, teachers and practicioners and other stakeholders in arranging strategies to adopt the current and future direction of education all over the world,” said Sururin.
On the same occasion, Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis said that The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we live in every respect. It has undoubtedly had disruptive impacts on nearly every aspect of our life including the educational sector. Currently, teachers and students are getting used to different forms of classroom transformation from in-person to hybrid (blended) to online classrooms facilitated by technological innovations
“We are now living in a shifting education landscape where the roles of students, teachers, and technologies in teaching and learning contexts have changed dramatically,” said Rector
She also added that the 7th ICEMS is intended to provide an opportunity for various stakeholders of education especially in Muslim Society around the world to share their creative and innovative works, opinions and experiences in an open academic forum.
“This conference is designed not only to share the research, but also to offer recommendations for the governments, educational intitutions, and other stakeholders to improve the quality of education through creative and innovative classroom transformation strategies, in light of the recent shifts in the educational landscape,” said Rector.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Vice Minister of Religious Affairs Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi hi his speech said pandemic has provided an overview of the future sustainability of the education sector through technological assistance. Each individual is required to develop creativity and innovation in using technology for the educational sector development.
He also added that the pandemic has taught us to become independent learners through various online classes or webinars. In addition, students can also work together with one another to solve problems in their learning process.
The adoption of online learning, he continued, is relatively manageable for students in urban areas as their access to connectivity is far better than in the remote areas. Many students who live in remote area are unable to participate in learning activities.
“Therefore, we must work hard together to overcome these problems,” said Zainut.
In addition to plenary session, the 7th ICEMS will be filled with parallel session according to the specified sub-topics. Among them are Curriculum Design, Review, and Evaluation; Educational Policy, Planning, Management, and Leadership; Digital Platforms for Online Teaching and Learning; Digital Media for Online Classrooms; Emerging Trends in Technology-Enhanced Online Classrooms; Lesson Planning and Classroom Management; Pedagogy, Andragogy, and Heutagogy; Teacher Professional Development; Instructional Methods, Models, and Strategies Testing, Assessment, and Evaluation; And Freedom To Learn-Independent Campus (Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka).
