Community Engagement #InclusiveCampus: UIN Jakarta PIH KKN Talenta Team Mentors Deaf-Blind Individuals in Article Writing Training
South Jakarta, UIN Online News — Everyone holds value in their lives, and writing is one way to express that value; it’s not just about talent.
This was conveyed by the Coordinator of Media and Information and Supervisor of the KKN Talenta (Talent Community Service Program) from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta’s Public Information and Humas Center (PIH), Fauziah Muslimah, M.I.Kom., during an article writing training session for deaf-blind individuals at Yayasan Pelita Indonesia on Saturday (June 28, 2025).
The coordinator, also a lecturer at UIN Jakarta’s Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Sciences, explained that writing is a necessity for everyone. In her presentation, she shared basic techniques for writing popular articles or opinions as a means for people with disabilities to create and express their views.
“Basic writing techniques like the 5Ws and 1H are the primary foundation for our friends to write. If these elements are met, it will form a complete article,” she explained.
The training event coordinator, Alice, stated that the purpose of this training is to enhance the capacity of individuals with deaf-blindness (dual sensory disabilities), given the limited access to inclusive and disability-friendly training. This event is a collaboration between the Indonesian Deaf-Blind Disability Empowerment Foundation (Yayasan Pelita Indonesia) and Sasana Inklusi dan Gerakan Advokasi Difabel (SIGAB).
“Our hope is that this training will be a new experience for our friends with disabilities and a motivation for them to continue growing despite their limitations,” she said.
Furthermore, one of the disabled participants in the writing training, Firmansyah, expressed great enthusiasm for the training. “This activity was very positive for me; I now understand more about how to write according to the writing techniques explained by the speaker," said Firmansyah.
Firmansyah admitted gaining new insights from this training. According to him, this writing training needs to be conducted continuously. “Writing training should be held frequently so that my writing skills and those of my friends with disabilities can develop and produce beneficial and inspiring works,” he explained.
Additionally, the writing training speaker, Fauziah Muslimah, expressed her hopes and appreciation to the enthusiastic participants of the writing training.
"We hope this training can bring positive impact and benefits to our deaf-blind friends. I am impressed by the enthusiastic spirit of the participants; despite their limitations, they continued to listen and absorb the material using various learning media," explained the event's speaker, Fauziah Muslimah, a lecturer at the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences.
