Academic Day 2025: UIN Jakarta’s Doctoral Program in Islamic Communication Accelerates Research in the Era of Society 5.0
Theater Hall FDIKOM, UIN Online News — The Faculty of Da'wa and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta hosted an Academic Day seminar under the theme “Accelerating the KPI Doctoral Program in the Era of Society 5.0” on Tuesday (28/10/2025).
Featuring 18 FDIKOM postgraduate students, they are qualified candidates out of 50 applicants who made their way into the Doctoral Program in Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI), proving their sheer commitment to scholarly excellence and innovation in communication studies.
In his welcoming address, Dean of FDIKOM Prof. Dr. Gun Gun Heryanto, M.Si., opened the seminar by mentioning the importance of accelerating doctoral research development and congratulated the new doctoral students.
The program’s academic goal was presented by Dr. Tantan Hermansyah, S.Ag., M.Si., who outlined the curriculum, graduation timeline, and faculty profile.
"We do have a vision here. It is to become a leading center for the study of media and digital communication in the context of Muslim societies. Through missions focused on developing Islamic-oriented digital communication research and theory, we want to foster global academic innovation and produce doctoral graduates with advanced comprehension in digital communication," he explained.
Dr. Tantan further elaborated that students are expected to complete 60 credit units (SKS) within approximately 3.5 years, covering core courses such as Philosophy of Communication Science, Da'wa, and Communication and Social Change.
The highlight of the event was a scientific discussion session titled “Accelerating the KPI Doctoral Program in the Era of Society 5.0,” featuring two distinguished speakers: Prof. Dr. Murodi, M.Ag., and Prof. Dr. Andi M. Faisal Bakti, M.A.
Dr. Ulva Fatiya, S.S., M.Hum. moderated the discussion by highlighting the necessity of innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration in navigating the digital transformation that increasingly shapes human life. The session ended with informal discussions between faculty supervisors and students, exploring potential research topics, dissertation ideas, and academic aspirations.
