Zakat Inclusion: Policies and Models of Empowerment for Justice

FSH Building, UIN NEWS Online - Faculty of Shariah and Law (FSH) held a national seminar themed Prospect of Smart Show Banking in Zakat Development in Indonesia. The series of activities that includes the signing of a memorandum of understanding, the organization of the seminar is divided into two materials in two sessions, followed by breaking the fast together. This activity was held on Wednesday (7/6/2017) at the Faculty of Sharia and Law Building.

The second session was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law Dr Asep Saepudin Jahar, Vice Dean for Student Affairs Faculty of Law and Dr Euis Amalia, and Member of BAZNAS Ir Nana Mintarti.

The first material was delivered by Dr. Asep Saepudin Jahar, regarding the concept of inclusion of zakat policy and empowerment model for justice. "The basic concept of zakat inclusion is an effort to involve all elements of society in zakat collection and distribution, which means it is a thorough awareness of community awareness in zakat," he explained.

Asep added the concept of zakat inclusion can use the system of financial institution instruments such as banking and modern technology, so the payment and distribution of zakat is easy. "This concept also uses an approach that can raise awareness for all elements of society to be able to donate, zakat is for community and sharing," he explained.

Similarly presented by Dr. Euis Amalia that to facilitate zakat the institution nust be sharia-based micro-finance institution. This institution is mostly tangible sharia cooperative or often known as Baitul Maal wa Tamwil. "BMT has two functions, namely maal as a social tool and tamwil for business," explained Euis.

In the same place Ir Nana Mintarti explained that zakat has two sides, the first side as a duty of religious orders, and there is a social and economic side. "If we look at the regulations on Law no. 23 of 2011 on the consideration that zakat can improve the justice and welfare of the community. That's why zakat induced  into law in Indonesia," she explained.

The purpose of zakat management in general are for the increase of effectiveness and efficiency in zakat managements , and improve the utilization of zakat to increase the welfare of society and tackling poverty. Therefore must review or assessment as to whether the direction of zakat management so far has been in accordance with the purpose. (usa)
