Victoria University Holds Free ELICOS Test

FDI, UIN News Online – The Indonesian representative of Victoria University, Australia, held an English language proficiency test for UIN Jakarta lecturers, Thursday, (4/6), through English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Student (ELICOS) scheme. A total of 35 lecturers from 11 faculties participated in this test.

Victoria university In-Country Manager for Indonesia, Reza Havies said that UIN Jakarta became one of the national universities targeted by Victoria University, this is because many lecturers in UIN Jakarta were interested to continue their study in Australia.

Reza expected this test could help the lecturers to determine their English proficiency skills level. “By participating in this test, they will able to see their English proficiency level,” he said.

Based on UIN News Online Observation, the test is divided into three session, namely grammar, reading and writing. Grammar test is aimed to measure the ability to make sentences with correct grammar, reading to measure the ability of understanding the text, and writing to measure participant written communication skills.

For information, ELICOS programs have been designed for students who require English language training before commencing formal studies in Australia, and offered in the form of English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

Head of the Center for International Cooperation (CIC) UIN Jakarta Rachmat Baihaky  MA appreciates the willingness of Victoria University who organized this test. According to him, this test will help the lecturers measure their English language skills as a prerequisite to study aboad.

He also added that UIN Jakarta and Victoria University does not have a cooperation agreement before. “Hopefully, this test could be the beginning of a cooperation agreement between UIN Jakarta and Victoria University in near future,” he said. (usa)
