UIN Jakarta Launch I-MELT Website

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Dede Rosyada officially launched Indonesia-Malaysia English Learning Teaching (I-MELT) Conference 2016 website, Friday (10/14) in his office.

“Today I am happy to announce that we are officially launching an international conference website that will be held by UIN Jakarta and University Putra Malaysia (UPM).” He said.

On the same occasion, the head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) Prof Dr M Arskal Salim GP MA which became the initiator of this website explained that I-MELT Conference is the first collaborative effort between UIN Jakarta and UPM focusing on English Learning Teaching (ELT).

English Language and Literature Education, as well as the research practice, are an important aspect in the era of collaboration in both the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in order to prepare the people through education.” Said Arskal.

To achieve this goal, he continued, some efforts to develop scientific knowledge through innovative practices of teaching, research, and publications should be taken seriously. As two neighboring countries, Indonesia and Malaysia are working together to establish an academic relationship to share and learn from different ELT cultures.

“First, I-MELT will be held in Jakarta and will be hosted by UIN Jakarta, then in Malaysia hosted by UPM. With the theme entitled Breaking Borders, Enriching ELT Experience.” Said the Proffesor from the Faculty of Syari’ah and Law (FSH) UIN Jakarta.

He also added that this year I-MELT had been successfully invited some of the leading figures in the world of ELT. Among them are Alan Maley (teacher), Brian Tomlinson (material development), Carolyn Graham (songs and poetry), Jan. Blake (storytelling), Stephen Hall (English for Specific Purposes) and much more.

He also explained that some ELT ulemas from Malaysia are confirmed to participate in this conference. Among them are Arshad Abd Samad (grammar instruction and testing), Siti Hamin Tapa (genre analysis, rhetoric), Umi Kalthoum (curriculum and instruction), Husniah Sahamid (teacher of critical thinking), Mohammad Amin Din (songs in ELT), and Seyed Ali Rezvani (vocabulary instruction).

As for ELT Indonesia, will be presented by famous scholars, such as Fuad Abdul Hamied (ratings, methodologies ELT), Joko Nurkamto (curriculum development), Ikhsanudin (teaching community), Setiono Sugiharto (grammar teaching), and several other speakers.
