Uni Club Room, UIN NEWS Online— Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada MA to welcome and bid farewell to the participants that have finished their 2016 research fellowship and visiting professor programs in UIN Jakarta, Friday (9/30). Besides the participant of the program, the event also attended by Vice Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. Yusron Razak MA, Head of LP2M Prof. Dr. Arskal Salim GP MA and other officials of UIN Jakarta.

In his remarks, Rector expressed his appreciation for the willingness of world’s academicians to conduct the academic activity in UIN Jakarta “On my personal and institution behalf, and we expressed our big appreciation for your success in finishing your academic activities in UIN Jakarta,” he said.

He also added that the research fellowship and visiting professor programs are held for several purposes. Such as to introduce Islamic academic tradition in Indonesia to the world, to assist UIN Jakarta in being Islamic university with global recognition, and to develop global academic experience to the students and lecturers of UIN Jakarta.

“What we want is through the academicians, they can introduce Islam in Indonesia that are moderate, peaceful, tolerance to the world, developing global academic experience to the students and lecturers, also assists us to design this university to be recognized internationally,” he explained.

This year, UIN Jakarta invited academicians and professors from ten international universities to do research and lecture through visiting professor and research fellowship programs. Through research fellowship program, Sundaraj Dharmaraj from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jee Young Lee from the University of Canberra, and Kevin William Fogg from the University of Oxford are invited. They respectively do research and gives lectures at Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Faculty of Science and Technology, and Faculty of Social and Political Science.

Through the scheme of visiting professor, UIN Jakarta received six professors to research and gave a lecture in several faculties of UIN Jakarta. Each is Bijan Davvaz from Yazd University Iran at Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training, Hamid Slimi from Canadian Centre for Deen Studies at Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Science, and Martha Beck from Lyon College di Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy. Then, Jayakaran Mukundan From University Putra Malaysia at LP2M, Muhammad Ibrahim Noorzaee from Kabul University at Faculty of Syariah and Law, and Abdul Aziz Munadhil from Universitas Ibnu Thufail Maroko at Faculty of Islamic Studies.

Representing the international professors, Bijan Davvaz, expressed his gratitude for UIN Jakarta that received him as the participant of visiting professor program. “Not only researching on academic matters, but I also gain such experience that enriches my perspectives about Islam and Muslim community in Indonesia,” he explained.

Separately, Arskal added that the implementation of research fellowship and visiting professor program, which has already run for two years, went well. This was based on the sum of applicants even though the amount has to be adjusted with this year’s budget. “Alhamdulillah, it went well,” he said.

In LP2M list, the international research and visiting professor candidates are 13 persons. The detail is three persons in the inbound research fellowship, six persons in the inbound visiting professors, and four persons in the outbound research fellowship. Particularly for the last program, it is in the form of dispatching several UIN Jakarta lecturers to various universities in the world. Such as Usep Abdul Matin to Monash University, M. Amin Nurdin to Philipps Marburg University of Jerman, Nurlaely Mida to Yamaguchi University of Japan, and Yuli Yasin to Kuwait University. (zm/ika p/umar)
