President Awarding Bintang Mahaputera to the Late Prof. Dr. Harun Nasution

Harun-Nasution-210x300Rectorat Building, Berita UIN Online—President of Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, awarding Bintang Mahaputera to the late Prof. Dr. Harun Nasution at the State Palace, Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Thursday (13/0815). The award is given to Harun as the figure of Developer Moderate Culture in the context of celebration the 70th independence of Republic of Indonesia.

The conferring of honorary degrees awarded through Presidential Decree Number 93 Year 2015, August 7th, 2015 on Bintang Mahaputera Awarding Honors. In addition to Harun, 45 other figures might receive the grace of honor in a number of different categories such as Bintang Mahaputera, Bintang Jasa, and Bintang Jasa Pratama.

Heads of Tittle, Merit, and Honors Bureau, Admiral Suyono Thamrin said that conferment of Bintang Mahaputera award is given to outstanding individuals who have contributed to the progress, welfare, andprosperity of the nationandhis sacrificesin the social, political, economic, legal, cultural, scienceknowledge, andtechnology.

“The conferment of honors also conducted with respect to the consideration and approval of the result from the first meeting of Council of Tittle, Merit, and Honors (Dewan GTK) period August 2015, on the advices of Council, as well as proposal from institutions or ministries about the petition for granting honors,” said Suyono.

Harun spent most of his life in Islam and science field. He had ever been a Rector of IAIN Jakarta from 1973 to 1984, followed by the Dean of Post-Graduate Faculty of IAIN Jakarta till the end of his life.

Through his incredible acts, Harun succeeded to build IAIN Jakarta as one of the source for moderate Indonesian Islamic studies. In his hands also born a number of scholars who have participate and devote their selves in the development of science and Islamic studies. Harun passed away on September 18th 1998, in Jakarta at the age of 79 years old. (LRF)
