PBSI UIN Jakarta Holds Seminar and Book Review

FITK, UIN News Online – Indonesian Language and Literature Department of FITK UIN Jakarta holds seminar entitled Menghargai Perbedaan; Pendidikan Toleransi untuk Anak and Indonesia Zamrud Katulistiwa book review at FITK theater, Thursday, (3/23). The seminar presents there keynote speakers, Vice Chairman of Nadhatul Ulama Higer Education Institution Dr Syafiq Hasyim MA, UIN Jakarta lecturer Ala’i Nadjib MA and Researcher from the Center for Islam and State Studies Paramadina dan Senior Advisor to Indonesian Human Rights Committee for Social Justice/IHCS Hendry Simarmata.

In his remarks, PBSI department head Dr Makyun Subuki M.Si said, the implementation of the seminar and book review with the main theme of tolerance is expected to strengthen the spirit of Bhineka Tunggal Ika in Indonesia. Lately, he said, the spirit of Bhineka Tunggal Ika is frequently disturbed by many conflicts of interest at the expense of mutual tolerance.

In his presentation, Hendry explained that Indonesia is a country with a lot of cultural background. “This diversity requires exceptional management from the policy makers and the growing awareness of the citizens to respect each other and accepting the diversity,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ala’i said that the spirit of Bhineka Tunggal Ika always marred by the presence of several parties who cannot appreciate the diversity in Indonesia. “Awareness-raising among the students will become one way to reducing the risk,” he said.

Furthermore, Syafiq said, from the religious point of view, Islam has taught the concept of tasamuh for its ummah. Logically, Tasamuh shows the meaning of tolerance, to respect the diversities in society. “Tasamuh requires us to have an emphaty, to put ourself in the reality of diversities,” he said (usa)
