PBSI UIN Jakarta Holds Cross Community Literary Discussions

Student Center, UIN NEWS Online - Student Association of Indonesian Language and Literature Department (PBSI) UIN Jakarta in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia held a cross-community literary discussion under the theme "Teror Bahasa dalam Media Sosial " in the Student Center Hall of UIN Jakarta on Wednesday (17/05/2017). The discussion was held to improve a well established relationship between the community in UIN Jakarta and increase the affection to literature and culture of Indonesian young people. The discussion was guided directly by Indonesian language and literature expert Jamal D. Rahman, M. Hum.

In his greeting, Rhamadan as the chairman of HMJ PBSI explained that this cross-community discussion is one of a series of events from Literature and Drama Appreciation Week (PESTA RAMA) titled "Sepekan Bersama Putu Wijaya" which was officially opened by literrateur Putu Wijaya on Tuesday (16/05/2017). The event will last for a week with testimony activities of Putu Wijaya's friend community, Putu Wijaya book launching and musical poetry of Putu Wijaya as the closing ceremony of PESTA RAMA on this up coming Monday.

Jamal in his remarks said, terror can lead to some sort of form of violence or things that cause fear, such as language violence, visual violence, and physical violence. "In this discussion, we will focus on the language terror which we have commonly know that the language terror using social media is increased significantly and the widespread has been taken seriously by the government and the president."

He added that the terror can be considered as a simple act or even to serious one. Yet, the current phenomenon of language violence or language terror in social media has not received proper responses and sufficient control among netters. In fact, language violence is responded by language violence as well which make it become more rigid and initiate to physical violence.

Various responses about attitude to language terror in the discussion made it interesting, mainly, the responses discussed about the reason that language terror is commonplace in this era, the mistaken term of naming "language terror", to the view of absence of language terror in the communication practice among human beings as an independent one.
