LP2M UIN Jakarta Will Held “Beyond Co-Existence in Plural Societies” Conference and Workshop

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Center for Research and Community Outreach (LP2M) UIN Jakarta, along with The Contending Modernities working group on Indonesia and The University of Notre Dame, USA will held international conference and workshop at Auditorium of Harun Nasution and Uni Club Meeting Room of UIN Jakarta, Monday to Tuesday (July 10-11th, 2017). The theme of the conference is “Beyond Co-Existence in Plural Societies”.

The head of LP2M UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Arskal Salim GP MA to UIN News Online, Monday, (7/6) explained that this conference is considered necessary undertaken in facing the complex issues on plural societies.

“This conference and workshop seeks to energize and shape the conversation on the pressing issues of pluralism by engaging both scholars and researchers as well as inviting the participation of diverse religious leaders, public intellectuals, educators and opinion leader,” said Arskal.

This conference will present many world-recognized experts in this field as speakers. Among them are Azyumardi Azra (UIN Jakarta), Nelly van Doorn-Harder (Lake Forest University, USA), Eckhard Zemmrich (Humboldt-Universität, Germany), James Hoesterey (Emory University, USA), and Michael Feener (University of London).

The events will be divided into three panels and six sessions. On the first day, the panels will discuss three main topics, namely Empowering and Scaling-Up Pluralits Coexistence, Authorizing Peaceful Coexistence: Domestic and Global Challenges, dan Radicalizing Religion and Youth.

In the next day, the events will discuss about Scaling-Up Pluralism: A Project on Local National Collaborations for Pluralits Coexistence in Contemporary Indonesia, Women Strengthening Pluralist Coexistence in Contemporary Indonesia, dan Transforming Javanese Interreligious Literacy among Young People, Religious Minorities, Public Diplomacy and Changing Dynamics of Peaceful Coexistence, Religious Radicalisme and the Challenges for Coexistence.
