The various papers they present reflect a number of important findings on the teaching of all three languages in Indonesia.

International Conference entitled Language Teaching and Assessment for the 21st Century: Current Issues and Trends itself was held by the Center for Language Development (PPB) UIN Jakarta. Apart from UIN Jakarta, the speakers come from various national and global universities. "Alhamdulillah not only from UIN Jakarta, the majority of participants coming from various national universities and international universities," said Siti Nurul Azkiya Ph.D, Chairman of PPB UIN Jakarta.

To UIN NEWS Online, Azkiya said, dozens of papers presented are based on abstracts submissionof teachers and researchers of language teaching. However, through a rigorous review, only 98 papers are considered to meet the criteria of the committee to be presented at the conference.

The lecturer of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training said that the theme of this conference highlights two important aspects, which are aspects of teaching or language teaching and assessment or measurement of language skills among foreign speakers. "The Forum itself is expected to be a forum for the exchange of information and experiences of teachers and researchers for the best teaching and measurement models," she hoped.

Azkiya added, dozens of these papers will be re-selected so that it can be published. Besides to be published in journals indexed in Scopus & Thomson Reuters, the selected manuscripts will also be published in proceedings and journals within the Faculty of Tarbiyah and teacher training and PPB UIN Jakarta.

Find a Fun Language Learning Formula

Meanwhile, UIN Jakarta Rector Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada MA who opened the conference asked the teachers and researchers to prepare a formulation of language learning that can be enjoyed by students and madrasah. According to him, the mastery of English and Arabic among students and madrasah is still quite limited.

Such case, he explained, happened because the pattern of language teaching still based on text book and not giving the flexibility for the students to be creative. As a result, English and Arabic become a distant subject matter for the student. "Teaching English, for example, it was more introduced to the grammatical aspects," he said.

Rector also added, a learning formula that can be enjoyed by students themselves are expected to accelerate the mastery of foreign languages among the younger generation of Indonesia. English and Arabic, he explained, desperately needed for this generation in the era of globalization. (usa)
